Cutting Edge Decorative Concrete was established in 1995, and currently serves the entire Northeast Ohio area.

The president and founder, Mr. Gregory J. Mata, has a lifelong history in the concrete and masonry trades. As a young boy, Greg spent many days watching his father create various types of concrete flatwork and masonry structures for many individuals and businesses.

As early as the age of 9, Greg worked with his father, learning finishing and edging techniques. “My father, and the men he worked with, didn’t have it easy. A lot of things were done with their bare hands, not machines. I learned everything the 'old school' way. That really helped me develop a good work ethic and I was never afraid to tackle anything." Later in life, after high school, Greg worked summers alongside his father in some of the largest industrial projects in the Cleveland area. A vast amount of experience and knowledge was gained working in the steel mills helping rebuild the furnaces, and erecting some of Cleveland’s largest buildings like the BP America Building, and the Society Building. Many different types of concrete and high strength mortars were used in their construction. Greg also learned a great deal about working as a team; the importance of coordinated work flow, as well as the need for cooperation when working with others.

As a young man of 24, he was soon to be married, and felt a desire in his heart to start his own business. For the first few years, he operated as a concrete contractor with a specialty in small masonry repairs. Things started slow, but eventually, his talent and training led him to larger more challenging projects. It was then that Cutting Edge Construction began.

Greg was very happy with what he was doing, always trying to perfect his skills, but yearned for something more. At the same time, the decorative concrete market was exploding on the West Coast and rapidly spread across the country. It was at that moment, that he realized his future and the future direction of Cutting Edge.
