The Description of the project and the client requirements;
The sole purpose of the loft space is to vacation with family and entertain friends. Everything in this loft is of the latest technology and most artistic designs by various artists. In the kitchen, the client wanted a retro/contemporary design with somewhat of an aerodynamic shape for the island/bar. The client specifically wanted concrete countertops, but not just any concrete countertop. The countertops were to have an integral backsplash and sink. In addition, the client wanted us to incorporate our fiber optic lighting Illumi-crete™, into all of the surfaces including inside the sink basin, as well as black light effects over the entire surface. The black light effects were an incredible challenge, because the client made it specific that no fluorescent colors were to be seen during the daytime hours when there was no party going on.

Design Solutions and the innovative techniques we used;
We were able to fulfill all of the requests by the client.

Custom concrete countertops are what we create, so we were up for all of the challenges.

Creating the black light effects was definitely that. The on/off look was incredibly tricky.

We ended up creating custom glass pieces that look like white glass and mirrors during the day, but only glow under black light at night. It’s the wildest effect you could imagine. We asked the client for a list of words, phrases and pictures they would like to see. All of those were hand crafted with over 250 pieces of our custom glass.

The mirror and white glass were arranged in an artistic pattern for the daytime effect. With the lights down low, and the black lights on, all of the incredible colors, pictures, and words, jump out with an amazing look!

We also arranged the fiber optics randomly on all of the surfaces which are illuminated by 2 separate sources. One is located under the island/bar, the other is located behind the connecting wall by the stovetop and sink. The owner can adjust the lights to twinkle and/or randomly change colors. The glass bar top allows everyone the ability to see all of the designs on all of the surfaces.

The concrete was integrally colored throughout with a charcoal black color. This complimented the stainless steel finish of the cabinets and island/bar base. As a result, the countertops have 3 different phases; An artistic design of white glass and mirrors during the day, a romantic mood style with the delicate glow of the Illumi-crete™ fiber optic stars in the evening, and the funky design of all the black light effects for the ultimate party at night.
After the countertops were installed, the owner had an opportunity to see them. The reaction was truly great. Every time he looked at them and found another detail, he ran back over and thanked and complimented me. I can honestly say that I have never been high five’d, chest bumped and hugged so many times by another man in my life.
